USS New York began its journey today to New York City for the commissioning ceremony is scheduled for November 7, 2009.

The USS New York departed from Avondale, Louisiana at 7 a.m. and traveled down the Mississippi River through downtown News Orleans. Spectators lined the levees waving flags that were handed out by representatives from Northrop Grumman Company, the company who built the ship.

800-passenger ship was built in Louisiana, Avondale, and used eight tons of steel salvaged from World Trade Center Towers, after 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks.
